Project FeederWatch at Shawnee Prairie

Calling all birders! Project FeederWatch is an annual 'Citizen Science' program organized by Cornell University which studies winter bird populations. No matter your birding level, beginner or expert, your help is needed by the Darke County Park District! Gather inside the Nature Center to count the birds that visit the bird-feeding station at Shawnee Prairie.

Full Snow/Groundhog Moon Hike with Darke County Parks

Winter provides excellent hiking weather so let's make the most of it. Travel to a variety of Parks this season to check out what the winter landscapes have in store. Meet at the designated Park, dressed for the weather and bring your camera! Dogs on leash are welcome to hike too.

Winter Birdfeeding Workshop

Winter may often seem drab, but inviting our feathered friends to your feeders will add a jolt of color and activity to your surroundings. Join the Darke County Parks as they discuss the wide variety of birdseed, feeders, other "must haves" have offered where ever birdseed is sold. Discover the best seed for your favorite birds or how to get the best "bang for your buck." By the end of this program, you will be armed with the knowledge on how to enjoy a winter full of colorful birds. This program will occur indoors and will offer a chance to observe our feeding station to gather ideas for your setup.

Starting Seeds with Greenville Public Library

Backyard Sugarin'

Back by popular demand and just in time for the upcoming maple sugaring season, join the Darke County Park District to learn a new woodland skill. At the program, learn how to tap your own maples, how and when to collect sap, and finally, how to go about turning that sap into maple goodness! Demonstrations and hands-on experience will ensure that by the end of the program, you''ll have the skills needed to produce your very own maple syrup, sugar and more! Please dress for the weather as the majority of time will be spent outdoors and in the Sugar Shack.
