Darke County Parks Presents Wandering for Warblers Walks

It's Warbler Season! Grab those binoculars and let's wander for warblers (and other spring migrants). These often 35+ species hikes are great fun for beginners and experienced birders alike. Hikes will be held on the FIRST and THIRD Saturdays in April and May.

The Colors of Healthy Eating Workshop by Miller's Flowers

In a fast paced life, IT IS easy to eat healthy! In this workshop, we’ll discover the colors of healthy eating. Shannon, a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach, will share with us, the nutrients found in different colors of fruits and vegetables. Following Shannon’s talk, Caitlin Miller of Miller Flowers will be sharing the benefits and uses of microgreens. We’ll even get a chance to taste a microgreen smoothie! Workshop is $5 per person.

Nature Day! with The Darke County Parks

What better time to celebrate nature than Earth Day weekend? Shawnee Prairie will be a flurry of activities and information as you spend the day exploring wildflowers, honeybees, rocks and much more. Stations will be scattered in the prairie, woods and around the Nature Center encouraging everyone to discover all aspects of Nature. Children will have the opportunity to have their “passport” stamped at each station for a prize. There will be scheduled, naturalist-led hikes throughout the day for adults. Visitors will also get the chance to see many of the Nature Center “Animal-Ambassadors” up-close during this spring festival. Entertainer extraordinaire, Chris Rowlands, will be joining us for a FREE concert at 12:00 pm. Chris is a Naturalist Teacher for Aullwood Audubon Center, bringing music and life-size puppets to the stage for the enjoyment of children and adults alike! The Native Plant Sale will be occurring during the festivities... pre-order now or take your pick from what’s left (see insert)! The Friends of the Park will also be serving a low cost, hotdog lunch from 11 am-1 pm. Come on out to Shawnee Prairie and let’s celebrate Nature!

Darke County Parks Native Plant Sale

The Darke County Parks Native Plant Sale is back! Plants are available for pre-sale AND/OR purchase on the day of the plant sale. Pre-sale is the only way to guarantee that you will receive the quality and quantity of plants that you want. Pre-sale forms are available on our website or for pick up at the Nature Center. If you don't know what you want to order, there will be a selection of plants available on Saturday, April 25th from 10am-3pm.

Raptor Open House

Visit with the Darke County Parks Raptor Ambassadors! The Raptor Mew (enclosure for raptors) will be open to the public to allow Greta the Great Horned Owl and Joseph the Red-tailed Hawk to show off their homes. Staff and Volunteers will be present to answer questions and of course you'll get a great look at Greta and Joseph! This program is open to the public, but we ask that all visitors remain calm and quiet while within the raptors' area for the consideration of the birds.

A ladies night out with Miller Flower's

Common Captivating Cardinals with the Darke County Parks

Elusive Puttyroot Hike with the Darke County Parks

Spring Lunch and Tea at Shawnee Prairie!

Featuring Jan Brady giving the history of women's undergarments. The Olde Thyme Gardeners of Darke County Parks present this unusual event as a fund raiser at Shawnee Prairie. Participants are encouraged to dress in their finest attire and/or wear a favorite hat of yesteryear, and of course, wear your favorite underpinnings! Terrariums, Miniature Gardens and Succulents at Miller Flower's

In this workshop, join Miller Flower's as they dig into a new favorite trend- Terrariums, Miniature Gardens and Succulents! They will look at different designs, plant options, and care, plant terrariums and miniature gardens. Bring a glass container for a terrarium, or a container for a miniature garden. They will have containers, plants and miniature accessories available for purchase. The only cost to this class is the cost of materials, 20 spots are available and spots fill up fast!
